About

The volunteers behind Homeless Veggie Dinner are a mix of people of all ages, from all over the world, that come together once a month to cook. The event has no religious or commercial or political affiliations. The food is vegetarian with vegan options. The event is financed through donations.

The dinner takes place on the second Saturday of every month (usually — it depends on the availability of the space) at Falckensteinstraße 6, 10997 Berlin. Although this event is generously hosted free of charge by the Begegnungsstätte Falckensteinstraße, it is run entirely by outside volunteers.

Everyone is welcome to come for dinner. We encourage all community members to come dine together. If you have the means, we accept cash donations that goes entirely to food. The rest of our costs (such as cooking equipment, printing flyers, web hosting) are paid with additional donations.

All enthusiastic volunteers are welcome to help in one of several ways. There are different shifts. You might come to one or more shifts. But please ask in advance if your support is needed at one particular shift. Send us a request email before. We´ll get in touch with you as soon as possible. Thanks

  1. First Shift from 13 to 18 h
Be part of the cooking crew. Just show up at Falckensteinstraße 6 at 13:00 on the day of the dinner. No expert skills required! You just need to be eager and can follow simple guidance. (The more complex parts of cooking, like planning the menu, are done by more experienced volunteers.)
  2. Second Shift from 17.30 to 22.30 h
Be part of the serving crew. Arrive around 17:30 to help set up tables, learn the menu, put the coffee on, etc. As a server, you are also expected to clean!
  3. Third shift from 20 to 22.30 h
Be part of the cleaning crew. Arrive around 20 h, as we clean dishes as we go, including the prep dishes.

You might also come to a half day shift from 13 to 20 h or a full day shift from 13 to 22.30 h.
  4. Promote the event with flyers and posters. Distribute flyers at your own work place (such as a café, drop-in center, shelter, etc), take some to such a place, or distribute them directly to people. Come to a dinner, and ask how to get involved!
  5. Coordinating, picking up food donations, web admin etc. Come to a dinner, and ask how else to get involved!
  6. Bring your own creative ideas for our guests! Musical entertainment is always welcome and popular, and in the past people have offered services such as haircutting.
